Spent a couple of days in the valley and headed up Easter morning to Downey for some good traditional family fun and it was fun. Towards the end of our fesivities things began to roll and when I say things I mean the ground. People and first thought they were getting sick but that wasn't the case this time. It was an Earthquake and you know where it originated from? Mexicali! That's 9 miles away from my home town! We were just there that morning! I swear we miss out on all the good stuff....
Through the amazingness of iphones and the internet we found out the quake had a rating of 7.2. That's bigger than the Haiti earthquake. When we got back to the valley all the local radio stations were down and people were lined up and some corner gas stations (come to find out most of the valley had no power and a lot of gas stations were closed.) My parents house was in pretty good shape compared to others. Their pool lost a lot of water, one glass goblet broke, the guest house water line broke, and some pictures were knocked down but those didn't break.
For the rest of our stay we experienced one aftershock after another. Being back in Utah we are actually going through Earthquake withdrawals, thinking we should be feeling some sort of rumble or roll during the day. I even would go as far as saying we miss those tremors.
Eventhough our attitude towards quakes are so casual and nothing really happened to my parents home, there was plenty of disaster and destruction.
I took some pictures as well as found some of the damage around the valley.
This is the house where 1 of the two people died due to the earthquake

IT IS SO WEIRD TO SEE PICTURES OF THE VALLEY. IT DOESN'T LOOK FAMILIAR AT ALL, AND I LIVED THERE FOR 10 YEARS.
