Prayer

Every night before we put Dax to bed we say family prayer together. Tonight Dax said his first prayer. It was the cutest thing. I helped him and at first I didn't realize I was saying words like "thee" and being "thankful" . Those words are not quite in Dax's vocabulary yet so when I said words like that complete silence on Dax's end. So I changed the words into Dax's vocab and we all made it through his first prayer

ABC It's easy as 123

We've been trying to get Dax to repeat the letters of the Alphabet and the letters of his name for a while now and he wouldn't even look interested. He would just continue with whatever he was enthralled with and maybe say something like D, O, N, 2. Yeah.....didn't think it was working. A couple of days ago I was cleaning in the office and Dax came in and said he wanted to play the computer. I've never let him play it before so I was like, "Eh, what the heck, maybe there is a toddler game online or something for him." Sure enough Fischer Price had toddler games. I chose the ABC game that would say the letter and then an animal that started with that letter. I left Dax to his game and went on my way cleaning. When I went back by the office I heard Dax repeating the letters and laughing. I was so excited that I texted Jake right away to tell him about our son's latest trick.
After he was done playing I asked Dax to say the alphabet with me. He said every letter except for w, he tried but then got frustrated so he went on to X! I then asked him to spell his name with mommy. I would say D and then he said D. I would say A then he would say A and then I would say X and he would say X!
To further astound me with my son's awesomeness I asked him to spell his name while he was in the bath tub this morning, but I decided I wasn't going to help him and just wait to see what he did. A minute after I asked him to spell his name he says in a small voice, "D.......A......X" I screamed and Cheered for him and he became pretty proud of himself.

Day after day I'm astounded at how much our little guy absorbs and takes in. Some days I wonder if I do enough to stimulate his mind and body. Just when I start to doubt myself he does something like this and blows my expectations right out of the water.

Budding Artist

I think we have another Sculptor on our hands

I love how Dax is starting to play with patterns and colors. He's very particular about what color he wears and what he plays and eats with. He's also started using adjectives. Cute, Cool and Pretty are the usual ones.
A week ago he had stuck a sticker to my bum and told me it was cute. Haha!

Family Pictures 2010

I did our own family pictures a couple weeks ago. It was cold, wet, and miserable. But we wanted the fall colors and knew they were going to gone so we went for it.

Trunk or Treat

I love Trunk or Treat! I think it's one of the cutest ideas for some cheap Halloween fun. I wanted to dress up our trunk in accordance to Dax's costume. So I grabbed my handy dandy black sharpie and some cardboard and spent the afternoon creating a castle. I named it the Dragon's Keep. I was going to be Dax's Princess but by the time I got the castle together it was 10 minutes before showtime and I was covered in sharpie which isn't very princess like. So I put those sharpie fumes to work and created a Dragon Trainer's T-Shirt. I ripped it in some places and charred it in others. Perfect!

Dax probably had already ate his way through one bag of candy before we got to Trunk or Treat and was in the wonderful world on a Candy induced adrenaline rush. I left him in the car as I set up (Jake had school so I was solo) left a bowl of candy in front of the trunk and then took Dax around to the other Trunks. He hasn't figured out why he has to say "Trick or Treat" to get candy but he did say thank you to everyone. He couldn't stop giggling to himself, I blame all the candy. We went back to our trunk and spent the remainder of the time passing out candy. Dax stayed in the "Dragon's Keep" eating his candy and talking to people walking by.

Dax was Go! Go! Go! Then we got home, he sat on the coach, and then was gone, passed out in less than a minute. I watched the whole thing. Haha! It was awesome!

Dax The Dragon

Why, why WHY! Why does my son have to be so stubborn and not look at my camera! Totally rhetorical, I have a pretty good idea why...... There is a huge rock pile by our house that looks like it would be a perfect dragon layer. Dax, is going to be a dragon for Halloween so we HAD to do a mini photo shoot there. It was not the perfect day for pictures, pretty cold and drizzley and Jake was at home trying to finish a 3000 word philosophy paper so I was solo in trying to get Dax to just LOOK at the camera. In the end we did get a few good shots and a money shot(a pic where the eyes just pop)

Just Around the Riverbend

Took Dax with me on a photo shoot today and basically stumbled upon this awesome spot. Perfect lighting, scenery and we were able to get to the middle of the river with ease. Naturally, I had to capture a few snapshots of the boy.

My car is filthy now, but it was totally worth it. I love that we live in a place where I can let Dax roam free and not have to worry about him too much. Thankfully he's a pretty cautious kid, he knows his limits. Once he felt that the water was cold and moving pretty fast, he decided to throw rocks into the water and play in the mud.
