Trunk or Treat

I love Trunk or Treat! I think it's one of the cutest ideas for some cheap Halloween fun. I wanted to dress up our trunk in accordance to Dax's costume. So I grabbed my handy dandy black sharpie and some cardboard and spent the afternoon creating a castle. I named it the Dragon's Keep. I was going to be Dax's Princess but by the time I got the castle together it was 10 minutes before showtime and I was covered in sharpie which isn't very princess like. So I put those sharpie fumes to work and created a Dragon Trainer's T-Shirt. I ripped it in some places and charred it in others. Perfect!

Dax probably had already ate his way through one bag of candy before we got to Trunk or Treat and was in the wonderful world on a Candy induced adrenaline rush. I left him in the car as I set up (Jake had school so I was solo) left a bowl of candy in front of the trunk and then took Dax around to the other Trunks. He hasn't figured out why he has to say "Trick or Treat" to get candy but he did say thank you to everyone. He couldn't stop giggling to himself, I blame all the candy. We went back to our trunk and spent the remainder of the time passing out candy. Dax stayed in the "Dragon's Keep" eating his candy and talking to people walking by.

Dax was Go! Go! Go! Then we got home, he sat on the coach, and then was gone, passed out in less than a minute. I watched the whole thing. Haha! It was awesome!

Dax The Dragon

Why, why WHY! Why does my son have to be so stubborn and not look at my camera! Totally rhetorical, I have a pretty good idea why...... There is a huge rock pile by our house that looks like it would be a perfect dragon layer. Dax, is going to be a dragon for Halloween so we HAD to do a mini photo shoot there. It was not the perfect day for pictures, pretty cold and drizzley and Jake was at home trying to finish a 3000 word philosophy paper so I was solo in trying to get Dax to just LOOK at the camera. In the end we did get a few good shots and a money shot(a pic where the eyes just pop)

Happy Fathers Day!

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,The wisdom of the ages,

The power of the eagle's flight,The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,
He called it ... Dad

Giving a tie to Jake is a challenge. Well not that actually giving thats pretty easy but Jake holding onto the tie is the difficult part. He plays this game at church that if a guy says he likes Jake's tie, he gives it to him right then and there. He likes to think of it as I'll give you the shirt off my back, but instead of his shirt its his tie. He's hoping that it will catch on and all then men would swap ties and it has to be a good looking tie..... I like good loiking ties too but I would rather see them on Jake...
So this year I was gonna beat him at this game and I did
I have a friend from my home down that is a wonderful artist and he creates these ties that are just awesome. So I got him to make one for Jake, with his name on it and all the things he likes to do. Now he can't give it to anyone named Jake and it just so happens that the only Jake in our ward moved away. Insert evi laugh here!

Mommy Day

Before I was a mom
I always knew I wanted to be a mom. In fact that's the only thing I knew I wanted to be and was suppose to be, still haven't figured out the job/career path but I'm getting closer;)
When I was little one of my favorite songs that I would sing went something like this, "When I grow up, I want to be a mother, and have a family. One little, two little, three little babies from above. And you would say, each sister and each brother, all look alot like me four little, five little, six little angels from above." Hahaa totally a LDS song 6 kids by the end of it! Oh..... Fun fun!

When I found out I was going to be a mommy
Total excitement and surprise. And then fear set it.....Would I be able to handle this responsibility. I was going to be the one to teach this child from right and wrong, good and bad, about the gospel, Jesus Christ, etc. Huge weight fell on my shoulders, but as suddenly as it came it went away. I knew that everything was going to be wonderful and that I could handle it. Emotions went back to excitement.

The day I became a Mom

When they first placed Dax into my arms I didn't cry, I was just in awe, no more like shock! that Heavenly Father would instrust me with one of his choice spirits.

2 years into Motherhood

Dax is my little man. I live and breath for him and Jake. They are my top priorties, which means I'll be in school forever more, because I would rather be with them then at school but I don't care, they're worth it.
I love playing with Dax and discovering a whole new big world through his eyes. He melts my heart so easily that it makes getting mad at him so hard. Sometimes when I put him timeout I need to leave the room and laugh or cry, depending on the behavior he's being punished for.
His snuggles and kisses are my favorites.
For Mother's Day this year I wanted to take some updated family pictures. I did them myself and probably won't do them again. Too much of a hassle and I've come to the realization that when I pull my camera out Dax WILL NOT look at me! No matter what I try! So frustrating! But it was fun and we got some keepers out of it!

Easter

Easter was so fun this year and it was even fun before the earthquake! It was mainly so fun this year because Dax was able to get up around and find eggs. On the morning of Easter when he first started out finding eggs and figuring out what he needed to do he would say "oh wow!" and put his findings in his basket(bucket) It was so cute. His oh wow's quickly died out as the day rpogressed and he got more into it.

By the time the easter egg hunt got rolling Dax already was finding eggs. We had to keep calling him back and telling him he had to wait til Uncle Rog said go!

After the hunt Dax took his goodies over to the rest of the kids and started to go through their baskets to see what they got and shared his treats with them. Haha!

April Fooled

Mother Nature seemed to be the biggest joker of all this year
March 31st-Sunny Warm No clouds No snow
April 1st-Foot of Snow!

and then Nicole's school came in a close 2nd.....

This was on SUU's website on April 1st and we were devestated....
Prairie Dog Fights its way into SUU Lore

After decades as a Thunderbird nation, Southern Utah University will trade in the mythological fowl for a mascot more representative of the SUU spirit that comes forth in the hard work and tenacity of SUU true, whether it be in the classroom, on a field or on the stage.
This morning, SUU leaders proudly announced the University’s new mascot, the Fighting Prairie Dog.
The prairie dog, indigenous to the region, has been protected in southern Utah since 1973 as an endangered species. And though the dust-colored rodent has been a source of irritation for some locals, who say its protected status hinders development and economic growth, SUU officials feel there is no greater symbol for the SUU community than this small, short-tailed ground squirrel.
According to Vice President for University Relations Dean O’Driscoll, who is responsible for the University’s brand management, the French call the prairie dog, named for both their habitat and warning call similar to a dog’s bark, the “dog mouse.”
As talks about rebranding the University developed, says O’Driscoll, “there seemed no better animal than the highly social and tenacious prairie dog to symbolize the close-knit community of hard-working students, faculty, staff and alumni who bring our campus to life.”
As an afterthought, O’Driscoll adds, “We chose this ‘small dog’ because we are a small school that, like the prairie dog, must often burrow and forage for success.”
Prairie dogs are also considered by ecologists to be a keystone species in the life cycle – an important prey species as the primary diet to larger, more dominant mammals and avian creatures, including the ferret, fox, badger, hawk, owl and eagle. With such a vital role, it’s no wonder the prairie dog is protected by state and federal laws.
Out with the old and in with the new. Goodbye fabled fowl; hello fighting foragers.

How could they change our mascot to the p-dogs! Our team sports would lose any self esteem that they had especially our football team. How are you suppose to be intimidating if your mascot is a rodent that is preyed on by most other mascots.....
We then realized what day is was and the next day there was this notice on the the website......

APRIL FOOL'S!

H-O-T and Sizzzzzzlin'

Because Valentines Day fell on Sunday this year, we decided to go out and celebrate on Monday night. We've heard a lot of good things about this steak house in St. George called the Anasazi and we were not t was such a cool dining experience. The meat is cooked on a hot rock, literally.

We both got steak and when it got out to us, it was still quite pink, practically raw. We both were, "what......"
Our waiter then explained to us that we cut off a bite size piece and sear it on the hot rock until we feel it is fit to eat. Cool! If your in St. George and want to try a new dining experience with Hands On activity you should check out the Anasazi Steakhouse.

Be Mine

Happy Valentines Day!

kisses

To celebrate we all wore red to church.

Also for Valentines Jake and I did a advent calender to countdown to Valentines Day. It was so much fun and so much more meaningful to both of us. I got the idea from a blog called Love Actually that has a bunch of cute budget dating ideas.
Some of the fun things we did were, heart attack each other, hug for a whole minute before leaving each other, write and mail each other love letters, stuff like that. I think we'll do it again but differently to keep it fun and special.
